Car Rental at the Tanger Med Port

Tanger Med is Morocco’s largest port, about 45 km northeast of Tangier and roughly 15 km from Tarifa across the Strait of Gibraltar. Its passenger terminals receive the ferries from Spain, and it is the usual arrival point for holidaymakers, residents returning home and anyone starting a road trip in northern Morocco.

Because the port is outside the city, a rental car is the easiest way to continue: Tangier, Tetouan, Asilah and Chefchaouen are all within a couple of hours’ drive. Read more about the port on Wikipedia.

Tanger Med Car Rental: What to Plan Ahead

Ferry arrivals can be delayed by weather, border controls and queues, so we ask for your booked arrival time and keep in touch by WhatsApp. If your ferry is late, we adapt the handover. The same goes for departures: tell us your sailing time, and we agree a return time that leaves you comfortable margins for the port formalities.

Documents for Your Tanger Med Car Rental

Bring your driving licence, passport or national ID, and a payment method for the security deposit. Visitors can generally drive on their foreign licence for up to twelve months. For the details of age limits and deposits, see the rental terms.

Cars for the Road From the Port

A compact car such as the Peugeot 208 or Renault Clio 5 is ideal for a few days around Tangier. If you are travelling with family and luggage, a Hyundai Creta or Tucson gives more space. And if you want to add a bit of luxury to your arrival, look at our luxury car rental Tangier collection.

One Fee, Clearly Shown

Because the port is some distance from the city, a pick-up or return fee can apply for the port. You see the exact amount in the estimate of the booking form before you send your request.
